Idea:DEM Data

If we could implement a DEM data (I'm thinking the USGS data), it could be used in a variety of ways:
- Coloring topo maps
- 3-d views (see http://petit-poucet.org/)
- Elevation gain along a track! Say I want to ride a bike from point A to point B, I make a track following the road (possibly using google, if that ever works again), when I will be able to take the DEM data and see a side view of my route. Additionally it could calculate the total elevation loss/gain
